Although for some the idea of a bucket list might seem a little melancholic, it can elevate pub ideas (‘we should totally go to Bestival!’) to a formal status where it really should happen. For me, the photography festival in Arles is a must-visit. Taking place annually it’s a little Venice Biennale, a bit networking event (in the opening days) and all the more inticing because it’s situated in this French town. A favourite of painter Paul Gauguin, many of the exhibitions are set up in chapels and churches and all manner of imagery is included. From Magnum professionals to new graduates from the Arles School of Photography or indeed original contact sheets, the festival came to my attention because so many fashion designers curate exhibitions. Below are some shots from around the town.
