Nik and I went up to London for a few days to seek out some new labels for the shop and as always to find food for our bellies. We’ll preview some of the designs that have caught our eyes until then here’s a whistlestop tour.
Le Pain Quotidien / It may not be cheap but the food is handsome.
Drinks before we embarked upon Bar Boulud for burgers. Confit of pork on a burger, say what? But yep, it really was swell and it even came with frites.
Cox Cookies and Cake / The nineties was synonymous with the Union Jack – The Spice Girls, Britpop, Fake London and Patrick Cox the man who made the loafer cool again. But not one to stick to a solitary calling, Cox has opened this cake shop with a baking compadre, Eric Lanlard. It’s loud, there’s no cutlery, every surface is black and reflective and the staff wear black plastic aprons complete with studs. It fulfils all the Soho stereotypes and the cakes were very tasty indeed. Just make sure you don’t go if you suffer from diabetes or a sugar intolerance – people may just think you’re having a good time.
