This is the first Reading Festival I’ve watched on TV. Naturally it’s incomparable plus having every single performance described as amazing tends to be thoroughly wearing even with a bag of Maltesers to hand, however thanks to a bounding researcher Warpaint came to my attention. An all-girl group from LA, they are due to release their deput LP on Rough Trade after a fair few EPs – one of which was produced by RHCP guitarist John Frusciante. But despite famous boyfriends, the girls have a genial West Coast sensibility and tunes to suit, plus they’re supporting The XX in the UK. Their lead singer, Emily Kokal, also says things like this ‘(the band is) the best thing that’s ever happened to me on a personal level – it being four girls I completely respect and admire’. Smashing stuff.

Meanwhile, a more established band that caught my heart as they always do is Phoenix. I cannot really accept that in all my years of attendance that they have never once played, until now that is. However, I can sit content watching this. Now you must do the same.

Here’s a look at their latest video.
