New York, London, Paris, Munich everyone’s talking about pop music. But whatever happened to Munich, eh? I guess sista fashion had some fierce talons because while Germany was a cultural mainstay Milan is now the fourth fashion capital. And so it is that the fashion world descended upon the home of Fiat. Here’s some of my favourites from Milan Fashion Week.
Marni / Consuelo Castiglioni reminded me of Balenciaga’s recent outings in terms of colour and pattern but the mix of layering looked to a retro past rather than the Nicholas Ghesquiere’s futuristic view. The mix is interesting – do be clear that wearing a wetsuit under your lace dress does constitute eccentricity.
Versus / Wow. Melting Pot is an annoying phrase, but how many influences can you pull out of this? The middle image looks pretty much like a pattern from Christopher Kane’s own Spring/Summer collection put with a Liberty print rather than gingham. For me, it owes a debt to Luella and that can only be a good thing.
Sportmax / I’m a big fan of lace, particularly when the layer below is a different colour, and it seems there’s a real focus on fabrics from Broderie Anglaise to Aertex for next season allowing whites and creams to be revitalised with neon brights. Fashion is fun after all!
