Rosson Crow is a recent discovery and put simply her work encapsulates. Anything that challenges Americana as it’s painted to foreigners, bright lights all ostentatious and gleaming neon, then juxtaposed with Baroque chairs and chandeliers is good by me. The Yale-trained Texan artist paintings looks viscous as they drip down the canvas. Add to that the almost-blinking signage in each painting and it’s pretty much how I imagine LA to be. Oh, and the way she renders planes, layering dimensions and reproducing scenes like a photographic negative. And I’ve not even seen a painting in the flesh.
