Sometimes London gets bad rap and although it may lack the luxury houses that Milan or Paris hold, Christopher Kane and Mary Katrantzou are just two designers that turn the fashion world’s head to our capital because they become more innovative each season. Seriously, it was the new designers like Katrantzou and Simone Rocha who just killed it. Mulberry and Fedler Felder also stuck out with their cosmic prints.
Black blooms came through massively, in particular as devore or embellishment on sheer fabrics making a sophisticated and suggestive rather than dark and gothic statement (L-R Christopher Kane, Emilia Wickstead, Erdem).
The outsize drop shoulder lent a softer more retro feel to outerwear (L-R Roksanda Ilincic, Moschino Cheap and Chic, Aquascutum).
Layers and transparency softened hard metallics and beading (L-R Matthew Williamson, Simone Rocha, Mulberry).
Print specialists came heavy and hard with Katrantzou finding looser shapes to hold her new computer-originated designs (L-R Mary Katrantzou, Basso and Brooke, House of Holland).
