Returning from holiday to find dried, drooping lilies with a only a solitary petal holding the stamen, the vase clogged with musty opaque water. It’s fair to say my Mum would attest that my interest in flowers came late in life. But behold, what a world I have missed! What started with some lovely floral gifts from weekend guests is now a regular purchase, and frankly a great excuse to buy wild receptacles to house them.
And just as my interest peaked, or so I thought, came Raf Simons’ inaugural show for Dior. And then I heard about The Plant Journal (via magic surrounds) which seems to be the Apartamento of the floral world.
Which in turn reminded me that fashion photographer Nick Knight produced a book called Flora celebrating plants and petals in all their glory.
I then recalled quite a few photographers using flowers in a portrait fashion.
Which made me realise how even though an abundance of flowers looks beautiful…
a single stem or flower can be enough.
If that’s caught your imagination then be sure to check out the local talent, including Flowers by Passion and Tallulah Rose who’ll be running a pop-up school in Milsom Place from 3rd – 28th September.
